2007 MAJOR TITLE WINNERS

Stuart Smith takes the 2007 World Championship in style

No1 Stuart Smith 2007 World Champion

Congratulations to Stuart Smith Junior (390) who was crowned the
2007 Formula 1 World Stock Car Champion
following a dramatic race at The Norfolk Arena, Kings Lynn on Saturday night.

It was arguably one of the greatest finals ever staged and was enjoyed by a capacity crowd.
It crowned a great night and a fantastic weekend’s racing overall.

Frankie Wainman Junior (515) took second spot despite landing Stuart’s car a massive hit on the last bend of the final lap.
Outgoing champion and Stuart’s brother, Andy (391) gained a very creditable third place after fighting his way back in to the race following an earlier collision with a stranded car.

Special mention must also go to Frankie Wainman Senior (212) who gained a late entry on to the grid for the big race after qualification from the Consolation Semi Final held earlier in the meeting.
The race was a real battle of attrition and it was fitting that Frank qualified for his last World Final before retirement at the end of this season.

2007 National Series Champion 515 Frankie Wainman

The 2007 National Series came to a dramatic conclusion at Kings Lynn on 11th November.
The meeting saw the battle go right to the wire with just two points separating Wainman and Smith after the meeting Final. Further pressure was placed on the Wainman camp as Final victor Andy Smith elected to take a handicapped start with the lure of quadruple points.
With different scenarios in finishing orders, Smith had to finish in the placings however when the chequered flag dropped and the transponders were checked, Andy came in 11th.
After a torrid year for the Yorkshire Ace, the edge of seat competition ended Wainmans' troubled season on a high!

BriSCA congratulates Frankie Wainman Junior, 2007 National Series Champion, runner up Andrew Smith 391 and third Stuart Smith #1

391 ANDREW SMITH TAKES THE BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP AT SKEGNESS STADIUM ON SATURDAY 13TH OCTOBER

Andy Smith (391) added the British Championship to the Scottish title he won back in June on Saturday night at Skegness Stadium.

Andy was in excellent form in the qualifying heats and secured himself poll position of the grid for the Final.

Despite leading from the first lap Andy had defending champion Frankie Wainman Junior (515) for company together with, Dan Johnson (4).

A caution midway through the race allowed the chasing pack to close up and fans waited to see who would get away on the resultant re-start. Andy was quickest to the drop of the green flag whilst Dan made his move on Frankie however, despite the big hit he failed to dislodge the 515 car from second spot and this allowed Andy to build up enough of a lead to ensure he took the title for the first time since 2002

Frankie `Bows out'

Frankie Wainman Senior celebrated a 37 career at Sheffield on the 18th November,
Despite horrendous weather conditions nearly 4000 people braved the elements to be part of what was a magnificent emotional send off to a driver who the sport has taken to it's heart.

The debut of 16 year old Daniel Wainman meant that Sunday saw three generations of the racing family on track at the same time.

Close on 60 F1 drivers supported the event including several from Mainland Europe.
Drivers and fans did not let the dreadful conditions spoil the party and during a tear jerking afternoon and evening many presentations and goodwill messages were made to Frank.

BriSCA would like to thank Frank Wainman for a distinguished 37 year racing career
and his constructive input and participation in the sports ongoing development and hopes he remains a major part of the sport for years to come!
